Ruined Arch, Kew Gardens, Richmond, Surrey. The Ruined Arch in Kew Gardens was designed by Sir William Chambers in 1759-60. It was built as a folly, it's ruined state today not much different than how it would have looked upon construction. The building of such structures to decorate ornamental gardens was popular at the time among the wealthy elite.
