Some 47 bars and eateries line the narrow alleyways of Nonbeiyokocho, or "Drunkard's Alley", in trendy Shibuya, Tokyo. Nonbeiyokocho began life immediately after World War II as group of tea houses. Though the alley is just a short walk from the central Shibuya shopping district, the rents are low due to the area being built over a river. Today 47 eateries, each with barely enough room to swing a cat, serve beer, fine wines and good, inexpensive fare.
