Following the collecting and distribution of seaweed during a purification ritual known as hamaorisai priests make their way to the main hall of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu shrine at the start of the 3-day Reitaisai festival in Kamakura, Japan on 14 Sept. 2012. As a symbol of the purification, priests collect the seaweed from the sea and take it back to the shrine, hanging pieces around the shrine grounds to appease the gods. Photographer: Robert Gilhooly
