After bleeding captured dolphins with long steel implements, a fisheries worker guides the carcass of what appears to be pilot whales, which are members of the dolphin family, at "killer cove" in Taiji, Japan on 10 September 2009. Sept. 10 marked the first catch of the dolphin cull season during which around 150 dolphins were brought into the cove. A total of around 20,000 dolphins will be killed throughout Japan during the six-month season, according to the Japan Fisheries Agency..Photographer: Robert Gilhooly.
