Giant whale models mark the entrance to the central part of Taiji, Japan on 10 September 2009. Japan's traditional whaling methods are said to have originated in Taiji in the 17th century, and while the whaling industry faded out here after the International Whaling Commission's moratorium on commercial whaling was implemented in 1986, dolphin hunting continues to be a prominent industry in the town. .Photographer: Robert Gilhooly
