Homeless men line up outside the Nishinari Labor Welfare Center in the Kamagasaki district of Osaka, Japan. Over 1,000 homeless people line up each evening in hope of securing a bed in the several shelters found in Kamagasaki, a slum-like area near the bright lights of Osaka's business center that also is notorious for its cardboard box dwellings, 6-pound a night basic accommodations and drug trafficking conducted by Japan's mafia, the yakuza. During the summer months, when temperatures inside the non air-conditioned shelters soar, many homeless prefer to take to the outdoors.
